Paving cleaning & sealing in Pretoria
Restore faded, dirty, weed-covered paving. Pressure wash + seal brings brick and concrete pavers back to near-new condition and adds years of life. We arrange this as a follow-on service in any suburb we cover.
What cleaning and sealing does
A proper job isn't just a hose-down. It typically involves:
- Pre-treat oil stains and heavy grime with a paving-safe degreaser
- High-pressure wash at 200-300 bar with a rotary head (not a wand — wands leave marks)
- Re-sand joints with fresh plaster sand if needed
- Optionally apply a polyurethane or acrylic sealant in 2 coats
- Remove all waste water and debris from site
Why seal paving?
Sealing is optional but recommended. It:
- Restores the original colour (especially on older brick paving)
- Prevents oil and food stains from penetrating
- Reduces weed growth in joints (90%+ reduction)
- Reduces ant activity under paving
- Extends paving lifespan by 3-5 years
- Makes future cleaning easier (mild soap + brush)
When NOT to seal
- Newly laid paving — wait at least 6 months for efflorescence (white salts) to dissipate
- Pavers with known drainage issues (trapped moisture causes white hazing under the seal)
- Cheap or unknown sealants (matte, slippery, peel off in 12 months)
How often?
Pressure wash alone: every 12-18 months. With sealing: reseal every 3-5 years depending on UV exposure and traffic. Driveways in full sun (north-facing) need resealing more often than shaded driveways.
DIY vs professional
Hiring a pressure washer and doing it yourself is feasible but takes 2-3x longer and uses 3-4x more water than a professional's rotary-head commercial rig. Most homeowners use a professional for the first clean and then maintain themselves annually. Sealant application is best left to a professional — prep matters and bad sealing looks worse than no seal.
