Paving repairs vs replacement: which is cheaper?

Most Pretoria paving problems can be repaired for 30-50% the cost of full replacement. The trick is knowing when repair makes sense vs when you should bite the bullet and replace.

Repair makes sense when: pavers are intact, damage is localised (under 30% of area), sub-base failure is shallow (top 50-100mm), and original pavers are still available.

Replacement makes sense when: pavers are broken, more than 50% of area is affected, sub-base has failed completely, or you want a different style anyway.

Cost comparison: a 50m² sunken driveway costs R6,000-R9,000 to repair (lift, re-level, re-lay) but R15,000-R22,000 to replace. That's a 60%+ saving.

Get 1-2 repair quotes before committing to replacement. Most contractors will tell you honestly if a repair will hold or not.
